Lhyfe supports Deutsche Bahns goal to reach carbon neutrality by 2040 with delivering green hydrogen in the frame of the project H2goesRail !
Germany’s biggest rail operator has several axes to work on that, one of which is the research project “H2goesRail”. It aims at testing the switch of diesel-powered regional trains into hydrogen trains. DB AG, DB Regio and DB Energie are not only testing a new hydrogen train together with Siemens Mobility, but they are also developing a complete innovative hydrogen system for rail transport that will comprise a refueling station and maintenance infrastructure.
Trial operations will start in 2024 in the south of Germany between Tübingen, Horb and Pforzheim.
Lhyfe x DB Energie, the partnership
Lhyfe is responsible for producing green Hydrogen in Tübingen with the Lhyfebox and green energy supply by DB Energie.
Lhyfe offered to start trials with a mobile containerised electrolyser called Lhyfe Box. The Lhyfe box is an easier way to implement progressively hydrogen in your processes: no electrolyser provider deadline, simplified connection to the tank … It surely decreases your test project duration. For the DB, up to 190kg/day will be produced to supply green hydrogen for the regional train.
The set up in Tübingen enables DB Energie to cover and test a complete and sustainable supply chain. From the use of renewable energies to generate green hydrogen over the high-pressure storage to the final usage as fuel including the fast refueling process through our innovative train filling station.
With our work, we are developing solutions to the question how our society can deal with the increasing demand for renewable energy in the energy and transport sectors. Different storage technologies are required for greater interconnection.
In this way, we can use the surplus energy in the form of hydrogen, to contribute to CO2-free rail transport.
