At Lhyfe, we believe that real change happens when communities are at the heart of the transition to green energy. That’s why we’re incredibly proud to have been shortlisted for Hydrogen UK’s Community Engagement Award, sponsored by H2 View, for our work in Wallsend, where we’re planning to build a green hydrogen production site.

Wallsend has a rich industrial heritage, and we saw an opportunity to be part of its next chapter, one driven by sustainability and innovation. But we knew that bringing something new to the community required more than just a vision; it needed conversation, education, and transparency.

We worked closely with residents, businesses, elected representatives, and educational institutions to ensure Wallsend understands not just what we’re doing, but why. Our ‘All About H2’ content hub, with animations and videos, interactive project page, and exhibition events were all designed to demystify green hydrogen and its role in the energy transition and transforming the clean energy space. From inviting 526 nearby households to join the discussion to collaborating with Newcastle College Energy Academy, we’ve been committed to making this project as inclusive and accessible as possible.

We’re thrilled to see this effort recognised through our award nomination, and regardless of the outcome, we remain dedicated to helping Wallsend and the wider Tyne region embrace a greener future.

With just a week to go until the big night, we’d like to thank everyone who has supported and engaged with us so far. This nomination belongs to all of you.

Stay tuned for the results, and in the meantime, if you haven’t already, check out our Lhyfe Wallsend project page to learn more!
