Decarbonising Construction Sites Today
Karp Kneip, a European family-owned group specialising in civil engineering and road construction, places the decarbonisation of its activities at the heart of its strategy. Aware of the environmental impact of the construction industry, the group chose to begin by reducing CO₂ emissions directly on its construction sites.
For its motorway construction site near Carcassonne, Karp-Kneip’s partner Trabet has replaced its diesel generators with units running on green hydrogen, supplied by Lhyfe. These generators power the workers’ site facilities and the repair workshop, ensuring energy and comfort while reducing the project’s carbon footprint.
Result: 2 tonnes of CO₂ avoided in just 6 months. Concrete proof that it is possible to combine operational performance with a positive impact today.
A Vision: Decarbonising the Entire Production Chain
Beyond construction sites, Karp Kneip aims to fully decarbonise its asphalt manufacturing plants, both fixed and mobile. The company is currently working on adapting its burners—now fuelled by natural gas—to make them compatible with green hydrogen, a key step towards sustainable and environmentally responsible asphalt production.
Driven by a long-term family vision, Karp Kneip’s leadership wants to pass on a sustainable, 100% green, and competitive business to the next generation — proving that the energy transition is achievable today within the European construction sector.
Why Lhyfe? A Partner for Decarbonisation
Choosing Lhyfe was the natural step. As a strategic partner, Lhyfe supports Karp Kneip at every stage of its transition:
- Supply of 100% renewable, traceable, and secure hydrogen
- On-site delivery in high-pressure (200 bar) containers
- Tailor-made installation
- Simple and efficient integration with EODev generators
Together, Lhyfe and Karp Kneip are laying the foundations for a replicable model for the sustainable construction sites of tomorrow.
“We want green hydrogen — that’s how we’ll make the difference. Our goal is to hand over a sustainable company to the next generation. With Lhyfe, we can decarbonise our worksites and prepare the future of our plants.”
François Thiry, CEO, Karp Kneip
In Summary
Karp Kneip proves that operational excellence and the energy transition can go hand in hand in the construction sector. Thanks to Lhyfe’s green hydrogen, the group is paving the way for sustainable worksites and asphalt production in Europe, today and for future generations.
